For Marhaba, being a subsidiary of the airline company Emirates, we created a new global interior concept for their Airport Lounges in close cooperation with Designit.
The first Lounge of this type has been established in Dubai Airport.
The interior is a modern interpretation of the Arab hospitality founded on tradition, culture and the Middle East nature.
We aimed at creating an ambience of the Arab foundation without making it too explicit;
We color coded the different Lounge zones with the red colors being inspired by the Spice Souk (Spice market in Dubai). The green area was inspired by the Oasis in the deserts and the yellow area inspired by the desert sand. The dark blue in the resting area was inspired by the color of the desert nights.
In the middle of the Red area we established a fireplace in order to resemble the fireplaces out in the desert. Fireplaces where you gathered around with friends in the cold evenings.
Instead of cool leather on the furniture we proposed wool fabrics giving thought to the Arab tents and carpets made from sheeps wool. The wool can breathe and is comfortable to sit in. Furthermore in can be reused and is very sustainable.
Reception area, long tables, lighting and fireplace were designed specifically for this project
All in all we made a new and very different Loung concept – now being nominated as one of the best Lounges in the Middle East.
